Duluth Trading Co., the Midwest-based clothing and accessories retailer known for its humorous ads, has opened at the University Village Colorado shopping center in Colorado Springs.
The store, 5318 N. Nevada Ave., northwest of Nevada and Garden of the Gods Road, is the second location for Duluth Trading Co. in Colorado. The retailer also has a Thornton store that opened last year.
The Colorado Springs store began serving customers last week, but plans a grand opening Thursday. At 10:30 a.m. and noon that day, professional lumberjacks will perform 30-minute shows featuring head-to-head ax throwing and single buck, underhand chop and speed carving.
Duluth Trading Co. employs about 40 people; it’s open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
The store joins Trader Joe’s, Costco Wholesale Club, Kohl’s department store, Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse, Stein Mart and other retailers at University Village, a regional shopping center that’s also home to several sit-down and fast-casual restaurants.
Duluth Trading Co. is popular for tongue-in-cheek ads that tout items such as the company’s Longtail T-shirt, with 3 extra inches to cover a "plumber’s butt." Those ads are intended to market casual and work clothing for men and women; coats and jackets; shoes and boots; and belts, wallets, luggage and other accessories.
Duluth Trading Co. was founded in 1989 as a catalog-only retailer in Duluth, Minn. Today, Duluth Trading Co. has its headquarters, a call center and distribution facility, in Belleville, Wis., about a half-hour south of Madison.
